I say I hate the Juke, and I do. I really do. But I love this thing.
Now the Veloster isn’t a tying to tell any one it’s an “CUV” which a appreciate, but they do have some things is common.
The most obvious relation being that they are both, polarizing cars. Cars that even get attention from people who usually don’t notice cars, and chances are if you’re the sort of person who forms opinions about cars, you’re feelings about them are strong. Because they stand out.
Another thing they have in common is they both toss aside traditional square, proposeful, classic hatchback shapes in favor of soppy lines, slanted roof, and tiny cargo areas. This is my main reason for hating the Juke but I let it slide on the Veloster. To the point that a Turbo model is in my top 5 “my next car” list. The Veloster does have one saving grace though, hatch opens up half way up the roof, like an old Saab.
The Veloster does provide 5 cubic feet more space than a Juke with the rear seats up.

I feel like it has no clue what it wants to be.

It knows what it doesn’t want to be, a crossover.

Since when did the Veloster become a sentient being?

I too hate the Juke. Yet like these.
A Security guard at work has one and he loves it. He makes regular trips to Chicago and back (360mi round trip) in it and says he never feels worn down. His only complaint is that it gets no traction in the snow. “ I have six cinder blocks in the back and still can’t get traction. ”

I may woefully ignorant here, but why weigh down the back of a FWD car?
![]() 12/29/2016 at 01:00 |

The Veloster is one of those cars that when I see one on the road, I ask myself, why would you buy that?

You’re not at all ignorant. I was holding back my laughter so hard when he said that I couldn’t ask him that very same question.

I feel zero shame for my Veloster love.

Does he think it’s RWD?

Because... okay I don’t know. It’s just weird, but I like it a lot.

I honestly believe he does.

That sad. I mean it kinda look RWD I guess. But you’d think he notice by the way it handles, especially in snow.

He an appliance driver. He can pop off all types of obscure facts about Hockey, Football and Baseball yet knows nothing about what he drives. I don’t want to get down on him either because he has some things figured out. He may actually have the best job at the Hospital.

This car doesn’t look like shit and it’s not from a company like Nissan who should know better so i don’t see the hypocrisy lol.
Plus this mid engine version is coming:
Meanwhile Nissan “nismos” the juke instead of making a proper hot hatch.

Mind you, I always thought the Audi TT and VW New Beetle were basically the same thing (S/RS models not withstanding). Funny how the average petrolhead tends to love one and hate the other.

Oh my god! Thanks for the love ya’ll.
I have always loved my Veloster but sometimes its lack of “street cred” or enthusiast approval has me down...I even wrote an article about it a long time ago because my Rally Edition is such a damn fun car, but enthusiasts don’t give it a chance. I can keep up with any of the usual cars on the mountains...which are usually the 90s sports cars. In fact it may be faster in the corners than my stock Miata.
Seriously if anyone in SF bay area wants to drive my car, I am willing to give test drives and I’ll bet he ends the drive genuinely surprised at how good this car is.

I cross shopped a Veloster Turbo, the only reason I got the Juke was that it had more ground clearance. The extra ground clearance really helps in deep snow, where the Veloster be dragging its bumper. It looked great, & drove nice.

I don’t mind the Juke or the Veloster. I do like the Veloster more though. I’d even be happy with a base non-Turbo model. I don’t drive like a hoon most of the time, so it would just give that ‘slow car fast’ mentality when I DID drive it harder! :P

W00t, Rally Edition! Saw one in person at the local dealership while my Accent was in for an inspection a few months back, gorgeous car!

So what you’re saying is you really like odd ducks.
Ps. Sorry a hate you’re car.

I love the 3 door idea of this car. Such a better way to transport kiddos and doggos. Personally prefer my FoST to the V-Turbo, better driver but the Hyundai I think had a better interior.

I love the Rally, my only problem with it is unlike the regular Turbo it doesn’t have headset seat. I’d guess that wasn’t as high on you’re new car check list living in sunny California.

I would for sure have to try out a Fiesta ST before I bought a Veloster. The Ford would make a lot more sense for me because I hav a Ford dealership in town, but the closest Hyundia dealership is an hour and a half away.

Try both the Fiesta ST and the Focus ST. You may like the additional space and power.

It isnt. It’s a hatchback.

I have a Veloster Turbo. Both of the Fords have more oomph. Both cost more in Canada... my Veloster’s engine detonated at 18,000 km. Warranty covered, but not promising for longevity.

I’ve got the VT, wife has a Juke. I’m repairing an AMC Eagle and getting rid of the VT for reasons mentioned above.

Wow that is scary.

Still have a year and a half on the warranty, looking to have the car sold long before then. The money from that should go a long way into making the AMC a much nicer car. And it’s already pretty sweet. Only other problem with the Veloster has been speaker related. Driver’s door speaker and the rear passenger keep coming loose and vibrating.

Wait, what is a headset seat?
![]() 12/29/2016 at 17:14 |

Sorry. heated seats
![]() 12/29/2016 at 17:15 |

That’s weird. Couldn’t you just throw some lock tight on the screws?
![]() 12/29/2016 at 17:45 |
|
Ohhh. Well if you are considering a used Veloster for your next car, I don’t think I can recommend the regular Turbos. They do have a lot more tech but it’s just not going to be as fun to drive. They do depreciate like a rock though so if you can pick one up already for 4 digits, why not!?

I’m thinking if I do buy one it’ll be used in the next year or so, gunning for the 13000 dollar price point.
The other cars I have in mode would be a Geni coupe and WRX the WRX is probably going to be too much money

I’m not sure what the loose component is. In all honesty because the car is still on warranty I just make them repeatedly fix it. I don’t feel like dealing with it when 2017 should be my last year of owning it. But yeah, I’m willing to bet it’s as easy as lock-tite or some foam.

If you are interested in the next year or so, I would be down to show you the Rally and see if you want to buy it around that price. (I’m in Cali though) It’s about 17k right now on KBB but in some time, I’m sure it’ll be down to around 14k.
